Matebele lit up the GU pitch on Friday evening with a performance the neutral couldn’t help but enjoy. The home side tore into Morupule Wanderers from the first whistle, carving open a defence that simply couldn’t live with Matebele’s pace and imagination; by full-time the scoreboard read 6–2 in a testy, entertaining contest.
Tactically Matebele’s approach was aggressive and direct. Quick transitions, full backs bombing on and a striker who smelled blood in the box. Morupule showed spirit with two consolation goals but were punished repeatedly for sloppy turnovers in the middle of the park; Matebele’s clinical finishing made the difference.
For the home crowd it was a memorable night: an attacking masterclass with defensive lapses that produced eight goals and plenty of talking points. Managers on both sides now have homework — Matebele to shore up focus moving forward, Morupule to fix a leaky midfield before the fixtures pile up.
